Wooden Interiors

There are different types of wood floors. In engineered wood floors, layers of wood are pressed together and glued. Acrylic mixed is where acrylic is put into the wood and this type is best suited for high-traffic areas like the kitchen or living room. Finishes also vary and the choice will depend on the type of the floor as well as your own preference.

The color of grains is another area where you can exercise your choice. By adding borders, accents, medallions and even having it specially painted you can enhance your wood flooring a great deal. Bamboo flooring is also an interesting option in wood floors and one that has the twin advantages of high sustainability and environmentally sound origin as compared to a hardwood floor.

The entry or foyer area generally has wood with customized designs since this constitutes the first impression of your interiors. The drawing and dinning room can also have similarly special designs. Bedrooms and kitchens are generally in more utilitarian styles. And the bathroom, being a high moisture area, should preferably be the exception to the wood flooring in the house.

A wood floor is classy and unusual, and also requires special care. For proper maintenance of wooden floors keep these dos and don’ts in mind. If u has carpeted the floor, once in a while you have to remove the carpet and check the floor for loose boards, the state of the finish, and for squeaks. Water is the great enemy of word so see that it is kept away. A polyurethane wood floor can have water seeping into its seams very quickly and ruin it. Take care not to have any flower pots placed on wooden floors unless they are in turn placed within nonporous containers. If water spills by mistake on the floor, use a wet or dry vacuum or a soft towel and dry it thoroughly. Open the windows too and let the sunlight in to remove any traces of moisture. In fact, keeping the windows open during peak sunlight hours, for at least half an hour daily affords good protection against any damp that can be damaging.

For regular cleaning, sweep wooden floors with a fine, and soft bristle brush to avoid scratches. Vacuum it once or twice a week (depending on how quickly your home gets filled with dirt/sand/atmospheric dust). Even here, take care to use a soft-brush attachment. If you need to move furniture around don’t drag them across the floor as this can easily cause dents and scratches. Wither lift the furniture or use gliding furniture pads underneath that piece of furniture and then slide it across the floor. Rolling furniture like chairs, and TV stands pose a hazard in this regard and must be lifted across the floor. High or pointed heels and heavy shoes might cause dents on wooden floors.
